What Makes JPEW Different?

JPEW is a discrete, boutique mental health provider based in Yardley, Pennsylvania. We emphasize each client's individual needs, whether in therapy or an evaluation.  Mental health is approached holistically, incorporating your personal strengths, the body, and interventions that work specifically for you. Treatment is trauma-informed and incorporates somatic and yogic informed interventions to help you develop an embodied, insightful sense of self.

We'll explore your life vision and develop a path forward. In session, we'll meet what arises in your mind and body with acceptance and curiosity. Laughter, body check-ins, contemplation, and personalized skill development guide your therapeutic process. You'll discover the breath and embodied interventions that work best to unwind years of tension and assist you in meeting the daily challenges of life. You will recognize your inherent strengths and cultivate ease as you build your meaningful life.

At JPEW our goal is to offer transformative therapy, empowering clients to discover a better way forward, not develop a lifetime therapy commitment.

Therapy

Dr. Johnson specializes in treating chronic stress, depression, anxiety, PTSD, complex PTSD, strained interpersonal relationships, and problematic sexual behavior. Treatment is trauma-informed, focusing on empowerment to transition out of fight/flight/free with ease. We embrace a multidimensional approach that capitalizes on the mind/body connection to improve well-being, mood, & increase self-confidence in the most effective way for you.

In sessions, we combine talk therapy & tuning into and calming the nervous system through embodied & yogic interventions so you can be present, connected, & make informed decisions as you navigate the world. We collaboratively calm your nervous system and manage daily stressors through trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy. Laughter, curiosity, body check-ins, and yogic interventions guide you to understanding your fight/flight/freeze styles and preferred coping responses (e.g., embodiment). You are empowered to manage your mental and emotional well-being, discovering your personal path towards a balanced and peaceful way of living.

Soothing the Nervous System

There are a variety of techniques to help clients soothe their nervous system. This can include beginning to notice how you feel in your body from moment to moment as emotions are experience, brief guided meditation, grounding exercises, and other somatic and polyvagal informed therapies incorporated into cognitive behaviorally based therapy.

Reducing Stress or Symptoms of Mental Health

Through psychoeducation and empowerment, unlock the menu of options already inside to ease your feelings of distress.

Evaluations

Individuals are invited to join me in a comfortable environment where they are safe to share what they need to say and be heard. Evaluation tools selected are the gold standard in their respective areas. Private evaluations are available for adults. Forensic evaluations are offered for juveniles and adults in family and criminal courts as well. Testimony is available as needed. See the Evaluation page for more details.

Yoga

The practice of yoga and yogic techniques teach us how to find ease in moments of discomfort. Studies have shown brief daily practice reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression in 2 weeks! It is also an avenue to deep relaxation. Yoga Nidra ("yogic sleep") for instance, is used by the military to treat PTSD. Yoga has many therapeutic applications available to clients if they choose.

HRV & Vagal Toning

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and Vagal Toning techniques use non-invasive technology to evaluate and teach the body how to soothe itself with minimal effort from the client. They have been shown to be highly effective in reducing depression, anxiety, and other areas of mental distress.
